Successful Parenting: Teach Your Kids That Every Action Has a Consequence……

Teach Your Children to behave appropriatelyOne of my big things about being a good parent is allowing my children to make decisions about what they will and won’t do. However, the other side to this is that I also have to be prepared to allow my kids to face the consequences of those decisions.

What does this mean really? Well, I strongly dislike arguing with my kids about their bed times. So I don’t. I will “suggest” that it is bedtime to my children. If they choose to go to bed then, great, if not that is their decision. However, they are still required to be up at 6am the next morning and for their chores to be completed and to be at school on time. Getting the kids out of bed is a matter of removing bed clothes and making a lot of noise so they can’t sleep. Read the rest of this entry »

Positive Motivation: Better Parenting in the 21st Century

“Mommy, how come these little ones get away with things many didn’t when they were that age?” is the usual complaint of the eldest children. They were referring – not to their first brother, who was just a few years younger — but to the next “batch” of siblings – a boy or a girl who came about ten years later.

As parents, you do try not to play favorites and be consistent as possible. However, does the eldest child have reason to complain? As the oldest child myself, I think so….. but that’s not any fault of the parents but a factor of evolution!
