Making crafts and hobbies while teaching about history with stamp collecting can be both educational and fun for your child. Teach your kids the importance of history by gathering up different kinds of stamps while explaining the value of old stamps, lessons on geography and the history of our country. There are millions if not billions of different stamps available. If you do not want to teach about history, you can share in the fun of collecting all kinds of stamps. There is a stamp for important people, a city, or a monument. There are stamps for tragedies such as 9-11, Olympic Games, etc. Share in the excitement with your child on the many different stamps they can collect. Let your child choose what type of stamps he or she would like to find and learn from.
Leaf and flower pressing
Crafts and hobbies involving nature are a favorite of many people. It also teaches your children about mother nature and the many beautiful parts of her. Take your child outdoor for a walk to find different shapes and colors of leaves. You can even include different textures as well. Once you have collected them, press them by putting each leaf in between two pieces of wax paper and placing them in a heavy book. Then pile on a couple more heavy books and leave for a couple days. Once the leaves are dry and pressed, you can laminate them and use them for jewelry making, greeting card making, or decorations.
Children need crafts and hobbies in order for them to learn, grow, and use their creative imaginations. These types of things keep them away from video games and the television and free them up for more special things such as sharing family moments. It equips them to go out and find what they are passionate about and create an activity around it all while learning something new each time.
