Annual Australian Islamic Conference (AAIC) 2010 Family Matters: A Foundation for Success April 2nd-4th 2010 Economics & Commerce Building University of Melbourne Parkville Campus The family is the cornerstone of this Ummah. By nurturing our families to be visionary, pious, confident, self-sufficient and selfless we are all able to contribute to uplifting the status of this Ummah. Put simply, the Family Matters! because it is the institution through which success in this life and the next is built. Last years Annual Australian Islamic Conference (AAIC) Walking in the Shadow of Giants, examined the lives and achievements of our pious predecessors, and although they lived in a different time and context, their shining example is an inspiration to us now. However, their success and achievements should not be viewed in isolation. Clearly their familial environment was a major contributing factor that allowed them to achieve greatness. This years conference is about exploring the missing ingredients in our own approach to family life that was present at the time of the Giants. In tackling the theme of Family, this year’s AAIC will address three sub-themes: Marriage! What does it mean? How do you select a spouse? What are the rights and responsibilities of each spouse? What are the keys to a successful marriage in Islam? Children! How do we raise them? What vision should we have for them? How can we teach them to be proud of their Muslim identity and be ambassadors of Islam? How can we as parents become the best of role models? Knowledge! What is its link and importance to the family? Why seek it? What should we be seeking? How do we incorporate it into our day-to-day lives? By the end of the conference it is our intention that every individual will come away inspired, spiritually re-energized, and armed with essential knowledge and practical tools to make positive changes within their families and lives. insert her own feelings and demands on me and the case strategy, leaving Crystal’s feelings and desires unheard and discarded. I turned my attention on resolving conflicts between the parties with time sharing, pick-up and drop off, and co-parenting. Crystal had never complained about her complete lack of involvement in her children’s lives since 2005. She did not attend doctors or dentist appointments, or even know who their medical care providers were. She did not ever visit the …
