Last years Annual Australian Islamic Conference (AAIC) Walking in the Shadow of Giants, examined the lives and achievements of our pious predecessors, and although they lived in a different time and context, their shining example is an inspiration to us now. However, their success and achievements should not be viewed in isolation. Clearly their familial environment was a major contributing factor that allowed them to achieve greatness. This years conference is about exploring the missing ingredients in our own approach to family life that was present at the time of the Giants. In tackling the theme of Family, this year’s AAIC will address three sub-themes: Marriage! What does it mean? How do you select a spouse? What are the rights and responsibilities of each spouse? What are the keys to a successful marriage in Islam? Children! How do we raise them? What vision should we have for them?
